Franken Friday - For a Far-Away Friend

Hello lovelies!

Last year I met some amazing ladies from India, but after a couple of months, they went back to their home country and I really miss them. One of them was also really into nail polish, so I frankened a nail polish for her. These photos have been lying around for a while (since summer, notice the sunlight!), but now I thought it was time. I wanted to go visit them this month, but my circumstances unfortunately did not let me. So my friends, I miss you!!!

I made this glitter polish myself (!) using glitter and mixing balls from bornprettystore.com! What do you think? You can now order glitter that is enough for a small, 4-7 ml nail polish bottle and add some mixing balls for it to work. Here's what you start with:

You know how sometimes you want to do everything and anything for everyone and you end up being busy busy busy and extremely tired? I think many of you know what I mean. 

So I frankened something and called it NO! To remind us all that we sometimes have to say no, but that that does not make us any less fabulous. That sometimes, we need time to snuggle with a blanket on the couch and that that is ok. So I've decided this is a magic nail polish that empowers us to decline. This is it:

This was what I did when I was wearing my frankened polish Silly:

I applied matte top coat from HEMA onto the polish and then freehanded the tips with a black striper from Etos. On the ring fingers I added a starry rhinestone from Pink Tease.

Friends on Friday: Silly Franken Fun for the Bday Girl!

Hey lovelies!

There are two major reasons for this blog. 

1. The Lieutenant, who convinced me and is cofounder and coblogger and 

2. The friend who got me into all this madness in the first place! 

She sent me some links of cute nail art a few years ago and from that moment on I kept on buying until I could reproduce everything! Today we celebrate her birthday and since she is abroad and I cannot physically be with her to celebrate, i hereby dedicate this post to her. 

Dear silly friend, I frankened a polish for you and you will receive it once you're back home. I hope you like it:

I used loads of different nail polishes for this and this is the outcome, a lilac base with pink shimmer and black, silver, red, pink and blue glitter of different sizes. I swatched it for you:

The Hundredth Post - Celebrating with Preenification Nail Art Water Slide Decals review :) [very pic heavy]

We hereby present you Preenification's Nail Art Water Slide Decals!

A while ago, Preenification posted on instagram that she was looking for nail bloggers to try out her nail decals, so I did not have to think twice! Yes please, pretty pretty! So she sent me 5 sets to try out:

Exciting! So I started thinking up designs. The decals come with instructions and are really easy to use. You cut them out, soak them in water for half a minute and lift them carefully off the paper. I used a pair of tweezers to do that and place them on the nails. Make sure your base of nail polish is completely dry before placing on the decals. Then seal them with a layer of top coat. Here goes!

Although soooo pretty, The decals didn't pop because I used white as the base. I tried again over a dark base, so that you can really see the decals in all their beauty :) This is Essence "Prom-berry" with "Cool Breeze" (swatches here):

The beauty of the decals w.r.t. stickers is that they are so thin, they blend into the design as if painted on. It is beautiful. A nice and quick way to prettify your nails! The best way for these decals to pop is to think about the background colour; when too similar, the decals will fade into the background colour. This almost happened in my first design..

I had so much fun with these! They are specifically designed for nails, each decal will fit perfectly while enhancing the shape and length of you nail. PERFECT!

She ships worldwide (while based in the UK) and since the decals are really lightweight, it won't cost much :) With one set of decals, you can decorate 20 nails. They're 2 pounds, or 2.50 euros or 3 USD! Cheap and easy DIY nail art :)

Indiana Weave Motif

Hey hey hey! 

Yesterday we had a carnival themed mani, this time we have a carnival mani that matches a costume! Lieutenant has decided to dress up as an old native american person. Now we love the colours, fabrics and overall beauty of the various indigenous peoples of the Americas. So coming up with a mani wasn't hard. Here it is, "Indiana Weave Motif":

The brown base is our franken polish "Pocahontas". The yellow, blue and red colours are from Essence, "Little Miss Sunrise", "The Boy Next Door" and "Gorgeous Bling-bling". We worked the design from inside out, starting with the red, and a little brush, freehanding the weave motif. The accent nails, the thumbs this time, have real feathers on them, which we glued down using nail glue, after the yellow base had dried. Then we added topcoat to seal everything in :)

Pocahontas' Birthday

Here is the first mani color Captain has ever made! And it’s what got me motivated to start up this blog for real, so here goes.

I give you....

“Pocahontas Birthday”

The brown shimmer base color is "Pocahontas", a polish that Captain frankened when she was bored.
It’s a nice shimmery dark brown, with color shifting flakies and glitter that change shades depending on the light’s angle. It got this name because, well, we figure if Pocahontas were to have nailpolish, thats the color she would use.

It was made with a black base, which was getting kind of old and thus turning thick and wouldn’t paint nicely anymore :( But then we added some dashes of reddish polish, brown metallic glitter, gold glitter, transparent flakeys and other various glitters, until we got the shade we wanted ;)
For this mani, I topped the tips with Essence "Time for Romance", which I thought would look nice and add a more 3D feel to the look. So there you go, all of a sudden, it's "Pocahontas' Birthday"!

See?? You can make your own dream colors, or revive ones that were growing stale or dry, very easily. And we really wanted to share stuff like that with you guys ;) And this blog was just the right opportunity :)
