Friends on Friday - PhD Defense Celebration!

Hi lovelies!

One of my dear friends defended her PhD thesis recently. She asked me to do her nails for the occasion, and of course I jumped at the opportunity!

This is her holding her degree!!! I painted her nails with NYC "Full Metal Jacket" (she was wearing blingy gold pumps!) and then matte stamped with BPS white stamping polish and BC-08 stamping plate. I went for 'festive but subtle' and 'flashy but classy', if you know what I mean ;)

Her sister was one of her paranymphs, wearing a blue dress, so I subtly matched her nails to both the dress and the occasion, using NYC "A Suitcase and a Donut" and BPS metallic blue stamping polish.

Her cousin was wearing blue as well, but was a little weary of the whole nail art thing, so I just painted them blue. (I'll get her next time! ;) )

I myself decided to wear this as a cheer-on mani!

Yeah, I had a bad nail break.. And no sun, so these are flash pics. This is two coats of Ms. Sparkle "Capricorn" with BPS gold stamping polish.

My friend was awesome. They asked tricky questions and she just knocked it out off the park every single time. So proud! I'm grateful that I was able to contribute to the beautiful day in a small way :)

Pastel Princess

Hello lovelies!

A while ago, I did my second cousin's nails :) I only had a few polishes with me, so this is what became of it:

I used NYC "Raindrop", Catrice "Another Pink Panther" and "Evergreen 60s". The decals are from Essence. Doesn't she have the most beautiful nails?

Spacey Sparkles

Hello lovelies!

Today I show you a new polish, that my lovely friends from Germany brought me: Essence "Over the Rainbow", a blue to purple duochrome with a truly spacey feel. I decided to compliment it with some glitter and chose NYC "Disco Inferno". This is what became of it:

NYC Top of the Gold & A suitcase and a Donut

Hello dears!

Sorry for having been MIA for so long. I did a mani with two new New York Color shades last week, a pretty navy blue creme and a gold flakie topper. I finished it with some rhinestones and done!

"A suitcase and a Donut" is very pretty, but not easy to apply. It is only opaque in two coats if these are applied carefully and evenly. It is very liquid and runny. Top of the gold is however packed with flakies and one swift coat already results in this.

Tomorrow I have a whole swatch fest full of festive glitter. Stay tuned!

Nautical Nails

Hello lovelies!

Today I want to show you the mani I did for my weekend of sailing :) One of my dear friends is a sailing expert and she took me sailing on the Frisian lakes :) That called for an appropriate mani:

It is inspired by The Nailasaurus. I used striping tape for the lines, my first time using striping tape! It is amazing stuff... I used Rimmel "My Denim" for the blue,  Essence "Fame Fatal" for the red, W7 "White" for the white base and NYC "Full Metal Jacket" for the gold. I freehanded the anchor with a nail art brush and dotting tool.

What do you think?

Mani Monday - The Ruffian Reloaded!

Hello!

A while back, I showed you 2 ruffians (purple & blue). I had a very important job interview and did not know what to do with my nails (I had done light pink with roses twice already), but then I thought of The Ruffian! After going over it in my mind a couple of hundred times, I came up with the following colour combination: lilac and gold. I used NYC "Full Metal Jacket" and Essence "Ballerina's Charm", one coat of each, and topped it off with Sally Hansen Insta Dri. The how-to is explained here. Put it on last Thursday evening, still wearing it today! Did not have time to redo my nails all weekend, but it is hardly noticable from another person's perspective ;) Anyway, I thought this look is very chic, don't you?

One day later, I wanted to try out a ruffian with silver and maroon on my aunt's nails, so I did, with one coat of NYC "Platinum Card" and two coats of "Prune" by Europ Cosmetics that my friend brought me from Paris. I topped it off with Seche Vite. Look at that shine! Unfortunately I had forgotten my camera, so I had to make do with my phone and artificial light (never good), but one can still make out the shine :)

Ruffians Rock! Cheers!

Lightning tape art on Herôme Sapporo + tutorial

Hello beauties!

This is what I did after I mattified Herôme WIC Sapporo, from which I showed you swatches yesterday.

I taped it and used NYC "Full Metal Jacket" to create lightning! The tutorial for this:

That's it! Hope you like it. Share your recreations on our facebook page!

Glowing Embers - NYC Timeless Tangerine & Rock Muse

Hey hey!

Some swatches and nail art today! This is NYC "Timesless Tangerine", a bright reddish orange coral creme that is opaque in 2 coats (and this is without top coat, look at that shine!):

Then we have a very nice NYC smokey topper "Rock Muse". I decided to sponge this on the tips, creating a nice gradient:

It reminds me of glowing embers. I love it! What do you think?

Friends on Friday: Dotting the Jade

Hi there!

A quicky post today. These are the Lieutenant's nails, rocking an easy to recreate dotticure gradient. I chose to make Rimmel's "Mystic Jade" extra fancy with the black and gold (NYC "City Blackout" and "Full Metal Jacket"). Here goes:

Feeling Flowery

Hiiii!!!

A new month is here and I want to start it off springish, since the weather still thinks it's winter over here :S At least the sun is out today, so it looks happy outside. Good for this second day of Easter ;)

I used Maybelline Express Finish "Sweet Rose" as my base. I just bought it on sale and I don't see why it's called rose, nor does it look anything like it does in the bottle. Even though I got it half off, it was still hugely overpriced. This is 3 coats over a ridgefilling basecoat and it did not dry withing 40 seconds per coat whatsoever. The most annoying thing however, was that it bubbled immensely, so that is not pretty.

Oh well.. The  flowers were done using Essence "Shopping trip in Soho" and "I love bad boys", and NYC "Lexington Yellow". The green is Essence "Upper Green Side", which I should swatch for you guys one of these days, it's really quite pretty! :D
The white is from my striper, but added with my dotting tool of course. The gold is from Miss Sporty Clubbing Colours.

All in all my nails look happy, but I am very disappointed by the Maybelline polish.

I wish you all a nice day!

Queen of Green, is all I can Blue

Hi there!

Two good friends lent their hands. And this is what happened:

Green Fanta

Yes, green fanta is what it reminded her of! This lovely lady is a sucker for green, so we went all out with this dotticure. She was content with the result. All the bubbly green delight was able to wipe all exam stress off her mind :)
The colours we used were Catrice "ACid-DC" and "King of Greens" (the lightest and darkest respectively), Etos nr. 115 and NYC "High Line Green".

 It's all I can Blue

A more quiet design, but no less lovely! This good friend got a blue cloud mani, as described here on Nailside (which is a truly lovely web page! Very inspiring... Go check it out!).
The colours are (from light to dark): Essence "Absolutely Blue", "I'm Bluetiful" and "The Boy Next Door".

Please feel free to leave comments and suggestions for our next manis!
